On this one, we are balancing the objective to have more participants (raising more for a charity) with a hard-cut off date

Jim, I understand. My point (and maybe biofishers) is that having a hard and consistent deadline will ultimately ensure maximum participation. It's uncertainty and confusion that lead to procrastination and anger and the type of controversy we've been having now. In my experience, once folks know what the rules are and that they aren't going to change, they adapt their behavior accordingly. That works in investing, also, and has been recently demonstrated with folks hanging onto their money while the uncertainties of the tax codes and financial decisions of the fiscal cliff have been worked out.

As to Fred's comment as to who cares if the cost bases for the contestants are different among our contestants, my observation is that that concern has been the basis for all the bickering that's been going on lately and previously on this thread. I personally could care less what date the cost basis is, but I care much that we all have the same one. Otherwise gives the impression of gaming the system.

Having said this, I reiterate I can live with whatever Rick and Bulba decide.

GLTA, Bob
