They're pumping up the market to suck in more sideline money. I'm getting ready for March-April timeframe. In the meantime, party on dude!

Salomon Smith Barney on Computers : Weak demand persists leading to inventory buildup which firm feels will take longer than 1 quarter to work through, cut Q4 EPS estimates on DELL to $0.23 from $0.26, revenue to $8.43 bln from $8.75 bln and FY02 EPS to $0.93 from $1.13. Firm feels that CPQ will meet guidance for Q4 (EPS at $0.28 on $11.3 bln revenue) but will guide down for Q1 and Q2; AAPL to meet guidance for Q1 (EPS $0.66 on $1.00 bln revenue) but believes will reduce Mar and probably June Qtr guidance. Also feels MSFT will have to revise estimate down again.

Chip Equipment Sector : -- Update -- Adding to the negative voices on the chip equipment business, both Prudential and CSFB expressing skepticism about the proposed $7.5 bln in capex for 2001; CSFB says that Intel will be lucky to find $5 bln in worthy projects.

Chip Equipment Sector : Chip equipment stocks could be a battleground today; going against the grain, Salomon Smith Barney argues that while Intel's (INTC) capex plans are good news, they are not good enough; Salomon says that Intel makes up only 15% of capex in the industry, and that the 35% downward booking guidance by Novellus (NVLS) indicates that Intel is not enough to offset a downturn -- says investors should wait for lower entry points.
