I was very clear when I talked about A' s that I favor a standards based criteria for grading. Grading students against each other is not something I am willing to do. I prefer to measure a student against an objective clearly defined standard, and see how the student has preformed in relation to that standard. In California we now have clear standards and benchmarks for every grade. They are extremely detailed and very nicely laid out. All my lesson plans include the standards and benchmarks that are being taught. I explain these to the students at the beginning of every lesson.
