So it's interesting to read, in very small doses. And some of the things he says that refute the official government line are true.

I could say the same about reading Mein Kampf, CB. Actually, I would rate Hitler's honesty (in terms of really believing his arguments) far higher than Chomsky's. Chomsky's speciality is presenting lies with 'plausible deniability' by quoting someone else's words or using innuendo or, as you said, giving 'half a history' -- like his history of the Cold War that omitted the existence of the Soviet Union. The only thing really honest about Chomsky, if 'honest' is the right word, is his psychotic hatred for the United States, which drives everything he does and says. 9/11 was terrible for him because he couldn't stand it that the world took its eyes off The Crimes of the United States, the only subject that really exists for him.
