You are absolutely correct if either the RDBMS market could not support the $1.5Bn total growth that Oracle or Informix needed or either company did not have the infrastructure in plasce to execute on their plans. It looks to be easier for Informix, but I think they have more of a challenge in getting their infrastructure in place. Supporting $1Bn is a lot different from $500M, and in high growth mode you always leave customer support functions in the dust.
