Fyodor, Re: "wanna: But at some point, megahertz may not remain the best metric for consumers. Right now, Intel should be bringing some attention to this possibility in advance.
MHz is NOT the best metric right now, but it is certainly in Intel's favor to retain the perception that it is."

I should have said "best metric by consumers". Megahertz is not a good metric, but I was trying to set up a situation where even the consumer does not consider it a good metric.

"As long as Intel holds the "MHz lead", they should do anything and everything they can to support the consumers' perception that operating frequency is a good and valid measure of "speed"."

I think they are, but I don't think it's a good idea. I think Intel needs to urge consumers towards a better measurement. Intel isn't always going to have a megahertz lead... things change too rapidly, and it's only a matter of time before they're trumped. They need to get the message out about qualities of the chip that consumers really care about. Does it perform well? Is it low power? Etc.
