This news seems like Alcatel may be headed to dominate the wireless local loop by joining this new consortium. With Alcatel doing 50 % of the switch business in China and 40 % in Indonesia and Siemens doing 40 % of Asia they own most of the market. Most of the people in these areas have never made a phone call. I wonder if this new tech will be used in the planed Sky Bridge Satellite System proposed for the year 2000 ? Does anybody else have any idea of Alcatels plans for this new tech ?
