To All: I just received Infrastructure's Daily Note for 10/15/97. The lead article is Carl Johnson describing Samsung's new memory fab in Austin Texas, which also happens to be the largest in the United States and Samsung's first outside of Korea. I will not quote from the article, since I have yet to get Johnson's approval for doing so, but I will describe some of the content. Sometime next year the fab will be up to running about 25,000 wafers per month, and Samsung plans to build another fab in Austin to build 256M-bit DRAMs by the year 2,000.

Samsung does not use DUV steppers to manufacture 64M-bit DRAMs, but they expect to move to DUV steppers as they move to .25 micron size production, and their suppliers for DUV steppers will be Nikon (who currently supplies their I-line steppers), with AMSL as a potential supplier. I will quote here (I just have to) "These systems will probably be equipped with excimer lasers supplied by Cymer (CYMI)."

It looks like Cymer will be in business for a while folks. I may have to commit the ultimate heresy and buy yet another 1,000 shares at the open tomorrow. The ramp-up to the .25 micron size is on big time.

jess.
