I have to tell you, that even though that SOUNDS ok in practice - I have three children of my own who have ALL, at one time or another, said they wanted to move away, find nicer parents, etc.

Why did they say this? Because it was "Nintendo off time" or they couldn't buy a toy they wanted, or they weren't getting the dinner they wanted, or they had to go clean their rooms before they went out to play.

I would NOT want my parental rights to hang on the whimsy of my children. Because I do not want my rights to be taken so lightly I feel I must give Juan's rights their due weight.

Your heart is in the right place- and I know what you mean. I have read scores of cases on the termination of parental rights that would make you WEEP- it is surprising how horrible parents have to be before their rights are terminated. I agree with you that children's rights should be protected more strongly- but this is not a good case for that (imo). And it really would be dangerous to give the state too much power in severing the bond between child and parent- after all that is what X2 is on about. If the State can come in and ask your child who he wants to live with in THIS country- then the State really governs disposition of the child and not the parent. It's a balancing act- and it's impossible to get right in all cases.
