PS, (regarding the idiocy of allowing the 'Airlift of Evil' out of Kunduz) --- could you imagine Stalin giving an order to his commanders in Stalingrad to ALLOW a Nazi air evacuation of their leadership OUT of Stalingrad? (Or, perhaps the more analogous situation is Hitler ordering Rommel to not close in at Dunkirk... until the British Expeditionary Force had escaped?)
