I generally don't think it's the job of the federal govt to prop up markets but with the overall market now down 40% (as measured by the Wilshire 5000 from the peak in early 2000), it looks like we could have a panic today again. Even though I was only 50% common stock (10% real estate and 40% bonds), this is starting to get to even me.
