I think Peoplesoft has a financial suite of software which could become a strong competitor to both Oracle and SAP. There was also a unfortunate set of products called Smartstream (?) by Dun and Bradstreet which ran on Unix which was only ported to Sybase - one of the reasons it had 0 success. The majority of installs of SAP are under Oracle though SAP and PSFT obviously push Informix. One of the largest consulting firms estimates that 9 out of 10 of their installs of SAP go under Oracle.
