Kerry's mention of Cheney's daughter being a lesbian humanized the entire issue of gay marriage. We wonder how the President, who is presiding over legislation which affects Americans can stand up on a national podium and say that he does not know "if being gay is a choice or not." When Bush said "I don't know" Kerry jumped right up and implied if BUsh talked to gay people or not. And by pointing out Cheney's daughter he signalled to Bush that he did not have to go further than his own VP ti understand the issue.

I do not understand why the Republicans are making all that noise, I think it is unconfirtable for them for Kerry to point out that they are treating one of their own as secong class citizen. Kind of like in China where a new born female does not have the same rights as a new born male and is generally put to death according to prevailing custom.
