I seem to recall an Egyptian offensive scheduled for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. It was precisely for the reasons you gave the Israelis were not ready for the outbreak of war. They almost lost that war.

As is almost always the case of a successful surprise attack, the side under attack has a serious breakdown in intelligence. The Israeli army knew the Egyptian troops had put chemicals on their uniforms designed to minimize the effects of napalm. Once applied the clothing had to be thrown away. Why would someone do that except when battle was anticipated? Either information is overlooked or minimized. Many examples of this: Pearl Harbor, Battle of the Bulge, Chinese invasion of North Korean in the early fifties, etc.

But you are right about one thing, the movements Rod talked about could be just about anything. Of course Rod realizes this. It's why he qualified his observations. It was only what he had heard.
