According to the article Gus posted in #516, MR technology has been in the works for quite some time now. Yet it is still an expensive technology from a price:performance standpoint, I assume because of poor yields in production. I believe that Ampex's KM will be able to compete quite effectively from a price:performance standpoint for several years to come. In the mean time, I imagine there could be a number of other uses for keepered technology, including the development of a way to make it work with MR heads. Just my very humble opinion. --Wayne--
