First DUV Excimer Laser Company to Establish Dedicated Training Facility in Region
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Cymer, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYMI), the world's leading supplier of excimer laser illumination sources essential for deep ultraviolet (DUV) photolithography, today announced the opening of a customer training center within its sales and support office in Seongnam, Korea. The office will provide local training for the company's customer base in this key region, which is one of the largest users of DUV steppers and scanners.
Reflecting Cymer's continuous commitment to support its growing installed base of DUV lasers, this new center will provide comprehensive excimer laser training in the Korean language to both chipmakers and DUV equipment manufacturers. Opened in late June of this year, the training facility offers courses through a seasoned field-experienced instructor, spanning such topics as laser theory and system operation, basic maintenance and advanced troubleshooting. Additionally, the center will house a fully operational ELS-5000 excimer laser for hands-on instruction, and will accommodate Cymer's recently introduced ELS-5010 and its next-generation laser, the Orion 6000, slated for shipment this quarter.
"With the establishment of this center, our customers can learn how to optimize the performance and process capability of both our excimer lasers and their DUV photolithography systems to produce faster, smaller, higher performance chips," said Pascal Didier, Cymer's senior vice president of worldwide customer operations. "In addition, the center offers significant cost savings for Korean customers, since process engineers can obtain comprehensive training on our lasers without leaving the country."
As the fastest growing sector of the lithography market, DUV is still a relatively new technology in the marketplace -- representing only a modest portion of the total stepper and scanner market. However, as chipmakers continue to transition to 0.25 micron and below line widths, analysts predict an increasing percentage gain of DUV lithography utilization.
Didier concluded that the opening of the training center in Korea is the latest milestone in Cymer's global expansion effort. "Our Korean training center takes our efforts one step further by allowing us to quickly respond to customers' training needs in this key area, which constitutes 15 percent of our total installed base. In addition to demonstrating our commitment to Korea, this latest investment will allow us to establish stronger partnerships with our customers to further entrench our position as the excimer laser market leader and increase our value as the preferred supplier."
Strategically situated close to several leading Korean fabs, the training center is located at:
