I did read the book, but it was 5 or 6 years ago.
Admittedly it is speculation as to Intel's actual strategy sessions. I'm not invited to those meetings.

I do remember their push to Rambus well.
There was a sense of a lot of momentum without a great deal of explanation or cooperation.
That suggests to me that it was a strategy, and not just an event they stumbled into.
