Hi Doug:
When QCOM is discussed, HDR seems to be the next technology. However, the potential of QCOM goes far beyond that. The US is way behind in taking advantage of the wireless application. Go to the land of Nokia: Finland, and witness where they are today: Clark Kent will have difficulty changing into Superman since phone booths can only be found in landfill: practically everybody has a cell phone. Pager is like a dinosaur.
Just imagine what is coming to the US which is already in Finland. You go to a car wash: use your cell phone click a number, you phone will be billed, you get your car washed. Thirsty? Go to a vending machine, click on the cell phone, Softdrink of your choise is dispensed. Go to Barnes and Noble Bookstore, find a book you like, again click on your phone, get the book, the charge is on your phone bill.
When and IF Nokia is the buyer of the handset, would not they plan to incorporate that feature into CDMA phones? Just imagine the royalties.
As they say: QCOM is just the beginning. Anybody who thinks that 455 is too expensive has not seen the potential of this wonderful company.
On that note: Jeffrey P Bezos who thinks Profit is a dirty word, selected as Time Magazine Man of the Year? Give me a break. That person should Dr. Irwin Jacobs, if they ask me.
Best regards
