perhaps this article will help...

"To avoid conflicts with other hardware devices, the IRQ setting for the SCSI adapter board must be set to one that is not being used. If you are using Windows 95 (Win95) or Windows 98 (Win98) and you are not sure which IRQs are in use, double-click the System icon in your Control Panel and choose the Device Manager tab to display a list of devices connected to your system. Click the Print button to print a list of all devices and the system summary. This list will include an IRQ Summary."

i see my cable modem's interrupt request is 10. i don't have a scanner. maybe you need to delete the scanner and run the install wizard again and let it find an open position?

i don't know if i've given you what you want or need. we'll keep trying and hoping for more troops to arrive.
