I wouldn't be too hard on 'ol Trent. I'm reminded of Bob Dole, who was a disaster as both majority leader and presidential candidate. Few now remember that the Republicans have never in history had a better guerrilla fighter when they were in the minority across the board. He pinned the Clinton administration three times within the time limit on several occasions in 1993 (that's why the party felt they owed him the nomination).

Trent was just as big a disaster as majority leader against a shrewd opposition president. In this new situation, he may very-well surprise everyone...
