I think I have just recently read from somewhere saying that Apple had already trashed the OS 8 project. So, the next direction points to BeOS. IMO, this is as stupid an idea as wasting 300 mil. Why? BeOS is not mac backward compatible. No current programs will run on BeOS. And I don't see any software computer will write programs from scratch for a totally new system with only 5% of the market share. (Remember NeXT?)

Maybe the only advantage for Apple to acquire them is to cheat on how to write the entire OS native and how to do multitasking. Other than that, BeOS is just a primitive package that's inferior in every other category from networking to physical appearance. Even though Apple can acquire BeOS at a bargain, there are still lots of works to be done to combine MacOS and BeOS. And I don't think it can come out before the release of Windows 97. IMO, it is just too late...

BTW, I don't hold any AAPL stock currently. But, I am a long term loyal Mac user. Give you one hint: There are 3 macs in my house but none wintel machine. I just hate MSFT for they plagiarized the MacOS. But, it seems more obvious now the future of PC is already in WINTEL (or maybe java?). Too bad!
