Barnes Group reported their 2 nd quarter earnings today and they were $0.53 vs $ 0.43 a share for the corresponding quarter a year earlier, adjusted for the 3-for-1 stock split in April, 1997. Sales in the recent quarter were $166 million, up 8.5% from the reported sales for 2-Q 1996 of $153 million
" We expect 1997 to be the third straight year of record sales and profits for the company," stated Theodore E. Martin, Barnes' chief executive.
Barnes' stock price has responded to the record sales and earnings. In July, 1996 the shares traded below 16 adj for 3-for-1 split, and Monday the shares closed at 28 5/8 down 1/8 in NYSE trading.
In 1996, companywide sales were up only slightly. For the first six months of 1997, total revenues have jumped by 7%.

In my opinion Barnes is on track to earn $2.00 - $2.10 for the year ending in December 1997, and should be afforded a multiple of about 16 - 18 X those earnings, so a stok price of around 35 would be a fair price to expected by the end of the year.

Regards,
Gary
