It was my impression, either from on-line Mac Week or Mac User/World that they are planning an "extension" to allow Mac programs to run "under emulation" under the BeOS.
> Other than that, BeOS is just a primitive package that's inferior in every other category from networking to physical appearance.
Have you seen the physical appearance? I've downloaded a MacOS extension that purportedly makes the desktop look like BeOS (even to the extent of changing the rainbow apple in the corner to "Be". Font change, a little extra shading and shadowing, and a shortened window title bar, and some change in icons (e.g. trash looks like and office waste basket rather than Oscar the grouch's home) Nothing terrible, I like it, except for those funky title bars.... Other than the look, I have no experience with BeOS. Why do you say it's inferior? The way the Mac magazines describe it, it sounds fairly good.
The program code will remain the same; only when the program needs to access system resources will it be intercepted and the call translated to a Be call.
> But, it seems more obvious now the future of PC is already in WINTEL
It is so hard to predict the future. 10 years ago, would anyone have guessed today's IBM relatively meager market share of PC's? |
