uel_DAVE --Bascially what DR"J" did was set up a job shop environment for the handset division that will take anywhere from 2000 to 4000 people off of "Q" payroll.
By picking this particular partner after listening to the conference call it was the the quality issue and improving margins on the chipset being sold to "K" that made the final decision . At the end DR "J" said they were in discussion with another company right up to the end that they wanted to do business with .
The key question remaining for the short term is what kind of increase in unit sales we will see . They did not answer this question even though it was asked at least a half dozen times . I am sure it will be a decent increase but they would not comment .
The future with "Q" is not this sale but HDR , 3G , etc . The only issue that I am concern with is why they were not more clear on earnings growth for 2000 and why you would not use Qualcom name as a standard line with "Q inside" ?

BEST WISHES
BILL
