It could also be that new models are about to be released. I remember when the one Duron notebook Sony was offering started showing up as sold out and thinking Sony was moving back to all Intel.

Now two new Duron models from Sony have shown up and have been joined by an Athlon model for the first time.

I get the impression that Intel is having some trouble with their .13 mobile PIIIs. They were announced, looked OK (if a little expensive), and AMD notebook supplies started drying up. But there were a lot of problems trying to get speedstep to work and the volume of tualatins in the market has been smaller than expected.

Now a fresh wave of AMD notebooks is showing up, as though the OEMs are giving up on Intel getting the bugs out of their copper process any time soon.

Look at the jump in prices from coppermine to tualatin - especially after all that talk about Intel's low cost of production on tualatin. If they're just trying to get people to move to P4, the 1GHZ coppermine PIIIs should also be expensive, but they aren't.

Given that AMD is holding on to a lot of sockets at 1.2GHZ and 1.3GHZ that Intel could be competing for with a reasonably priced tualatin, it's hard to conclude anything except that something isn't working out in Intel's new copper process.
