Maurice, afternoon, evening thunderstorms are a common occurance here during the summer. Sometimes they will roll in like clockwork. This one was later than usual. We didn't get a power outage, though the power flickered a couple times and the UPS beeped and went to its battery backup each time. I turned the computer off, though, just in case.
We have a desert tortoise that always comes out and drinks during the thunderstorms. Guess he's not worried about lightning. The lightning was very close, though, and two of my children cross-examined me with dozens of questions on "what would happen if..." regarding lightning. The first question was, if a person could jump up in the air and stay up during a lightning storm, would that keep them from being struck by lightning, since they aren't touching the ground? When they ran out of questions, we practiced morse code, which all three of them are learning.
Your kids need you more than your keyboard does (as you well know), but I'll miss you if you don't ever come back.
