Art, with a current average daily trading volume of less than 2 million shares, pulling the price down $3-$5 per share would be child's play for GS.

If it doesn't happen, I would conclude it was only because they didn't think they could get away with it. The terms of the ASR are public record and they would have to be mindful that inexplicable sudden movements of the PPS would make them the number one suspect. Of course, we don't really know how closely the SEC watches for things like this, but GS has been hit for plenty of violations over the years and I am sure the actions taken by the SEC represent only the most easily proven and egregious unlawful acts perpetrated.

That being said, there is quite a 'good old boy' network on Wall St. and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if some other firm knocked it down for them with a tepid or bad analyst's report prior to or just after Q4 ER.
