Intel moves up shipment of P4-supporting integrated chipset Samson Yu, Taipei; Christy Lee, DigiTimes.com [Thursday 4 October 2001] digitimes.com nice to see any roadmap moving north instead of south ;-p
In response to demand from Taiwan’s motherboard makers and the competition from chipset designers such as VIA Technologies and Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) that have already introduced their Pentium 4-based integrated chipsets, Intel plans to send out samples of its P4-supporting integrated chipset, the Brookdale-G, in the second quarter of 2002, instead of the originally scheduled third quarter.
Intel originally planned to launch its Brookdale-G chipsets and new south bridge chip ICH4, which supports USB (universal serial bus) 2.0, in the third quarter of 2002. But as Taiwan’s chipset companies are quickly pushing various P4-compliant products, Intel decided to advance its schedule.
At present, SiS holds the lead in the volume production progress of P4-related integrated chipsets. The company rolled out its SiS650, which integrates SiS’s own graphics chip SiS315, at the end of September, and it plans to enter mass production this month. SiS650 motherboards are expected to start volume production in November, and manufacturers like Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology also decided to develop SiS650 boards for the low-end and OEM markets.
VIA sent out samples of its integrated P4M266 chipsets recently, which was launched in August. The company plans to start mass-producing the P4M266 in November and the DDR333-supporting P4M333 in the second quarter of 2002. |
