Two years ago I bought my Dad a WebTV unit, and he was absolutely enthralled with it, far beyond what I had expected. Soon, however, he began complaining about it's limitations.
This past Christmas, he received a Compaq monster machine as a gift, and he likewise took to it very quickly. But one strange thing happened. The PC lacked the look and feel, and the convenience factor conducive to couch potatoing, so he decided to keep both accounts! The PC is leveraged for other purposes, I might add.
Recently, he has been using the WebTV as a default machine, going to the PC for those increasing extras which WebTV cannot handle. Go figure...
