Hmmm, if the handset manufacturer that is using the STM supplied ASIC's is Sony Ericsson, perhaps neither EMP nor STM needs a license since the chip could be considered internally developed (not sure how this works with a JV). Just some speculation....and it obviously doesnt cover any shipments by EMP to companies like Sharp.
