Before the war the one thing leaders of other nations and even Blix were sure of is that Iraq had some stockpiles of WMD. How much is anyones guess. But the fact is a shell like what went off last week could easily be smuggled into the US and, if launched correctly, could have some rather nasty results.

It can't 100% prevent it from happening. What it can do is create an atmosphere where the terrorists come to us in Iraq. Rather than face them here on their terms we face them there on our terms. You don't have to agree with my logic (or lack of) but in 45 minutes on 9/11 we lost 3000 people in an attack on US soil. Since we've lost about 1000 troops.
