I started a 1/2 position in Paratek Pharmaceuticals (PRTK). I'm using a small portion of my portfolio for testing out ideas on biotech. I think it's difficult (or impossible) to assign a specific value to biotech, however I think there are some factors that could create an opportunity for an intelligent speculation. I have some factors I'm testing out, and if it doesn't workout then I'll move on.

I just have a feeling there's someway to invest in biotech although it will be more of a speculation than an investment as defined by Graham. Burry and Klarman both have biotech investments in their portfolios, and Klarman has quite a few (at least 4-5) according to his latest 13F. If they found a way, then there must be some sort of identifying factors they found useful, especially Klarman seeing as his calling card is being extraordinarily risk averse.

My summer semester for grad school ends this week, so once I have free time I might try to reverse engineer the biotech companies they own. Maybe there's a couple common factors among them that they find useful.
