Mark - Oracle is not a 1 product company. That is the problem with Informix and Sybase and if you check there stock price - they were both losing investments if you purchased them a year ago and held till today.

Oracle has several broad product lines, database, tools. applications, consulting. The applications business if you take in consulting as well as software is bigger than informix and sybase alone and has been growing at a 100% clip. Oracle consulting is the fourth largest IT consulting firm in the world - there are many firms who are only consultants - EDS, CSC, the big 6. Oracle's tools business is likewise huge thought i cant put my finger on the number. Oracle has other business like education and products (mail, web collaboration) which are one-off things but they generate money.

Oracle does lead with its database which is a good story , if you consider the way IT is headed - distributed enterprises/networked computing - would you want some crapheads who sell flight simulator and microsoft Golf selling you an information system?
