The folks who criticize America most tend to be non-Americans with extensive experience in the US or moderate to liberal Americans living there now. The folks who criticize non-Americans the most don't seem to get out much anywhere. The idea that the knowledge and experience gained from travel is distracting and evil is bizarre, when seen by most other folks on the planet.
