lewis,
There is much too much violence, and disregard for the law, in movies, and television but, I don't think that is the root cause for teens' feeling comfortable with robbing or mugging somebody. Values that can prevent such behavior can be, and should be, taught in the home by parents as the child is growing up, and should be firmly planted by the time they reach teenage. IMO, a major problem with parenting in the last 4 decades, has been that parents want to be "pals" with their kids, instead of being parents. Parenting is not an easy job, and should be taken seriously.

Jails are another matter. They are supposed to punish a perpetrator for their crimes, not molly coddle them in the lap of luxury. In some climes, AC is necessary to prevent riots, but there is no need for pool tables, TVs, and especially fully stocked law libraries with computer access. All that does is cause multiple fake appeals, and clogs up an already crowded court system. Prisoners should, IMO, be made aware that they have done something wrong, and are going to live a meager existence because of doing it.
