Compaq Delivers 64-bit AlphaServer and Digital UNIX Support for Dialogic DM3 Architecture October 5, 1998 10:09 AM
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1998--Compaq Computer Corporation CPQ today announced 64-bit AlphaServer and Compaq's Digital UNIX system support for the Dialogic Corporation DLGC DM3(tm) mediastream computer telephony boards. With this support, application developers can take advantage of the power and scalability of AlphaServer 64-bit platforms and the stability and manageability of Compaq's Digital UNIX operating system in the development of enhanced services based on DM3 technology. In addition, DM3 architecture and the 64-bit AlphaServer platform support the high-speed peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus architecture, with speeds up to five times faster than the industry-standard architecture (ISA) bus. This means dramatic increases in signaling speed, which translates to far more telephone lines per system, lowering the cost to provide these enhanced services.
According to Gene Nelson, Vice President of Custom Systems at Compaq, "We are the first in the industry to offer PCI-based DM3 solutions with Compaq's Digital UNIX operating system. This establishes a very strong position for Dialogic and Compaq in supporting enhanced service providers who are developing the next generation of services that merge image, fax, Internet and telephony on our 64-bit AlphaServer voice, Intelligent Peripheral, and Internet telephony platforms."
The Dialogic DM3 Mediastream Architecture
Computer telephony technology has generally required dedicated hardware for each communications media and conversion between media such as automatic speech recognition (ASR), text-to-speech or ASCII-to-fax. As computer telephony applications from industry leading partners evolve, the need to provide multiple resources on a single, open, standards-based platform is growing. The DM3 mediastream architecture is the first standards-based open environment that supports multiple resources from multiple vendors for the development of call processing applications.
Barnett Bezme, Vice President of business development for Amarex Corporation explained, "The reliability and scalability of Compaq's AlphaServer line combined with the stability of Compaq's Digital UNIX provides the perfect platform for Dialogic's PCI-DM3 technology. The increase in throughput is dramatic. This opens the way for us to deploy exciting new capabilities in our Intelligent Peripherals and Service Nodes."
Dialogic has already released three DM3-based products supported by the AlphaServer 64-bit platform running Digital UNIX. They are:
--QuadSpan(tm) series of voice and network interface products -- Voice processing and telephony networking features, such as a choice of T-1 or E-1 network interfaces and unified call control through GlobalCall(tm); allow developers to create large-scale intelligent peripherals for enhanced services.
--DM/F240-T1 and DM/F300-E1 24 and 30 port high density fax boards -- Designed to give fax-intensive applications robust processing power and messaging flexibility.
--DM3 IPLink(tm) -- A standards-based Internet Protocol (IP) development environment for PC-to-phone applications, Web-enabled call centers, network gateways, Web-centric messaging, and Internet multimedia conferencing. DM3 IPLink enables communications that merge, telephone, fax, PC, and Internet.
"With the dynamic combination of Compaq's premiere platforms, services and support and Dialogic's leading computer telephony (CT) technology, our customers worldwide will be able to develop extremely large telco-grade applications in less time at lower cost," said Howard Bubb, CEO and President, Dialogic Corporation. "Together we are setting new benchmarks for performance, flexibility and time to market - the tools it takes to build leading communications solutions. We believe that Dialogic's long-standing alliance with Compaq will dramatically accelerate CT deployments in telco networks worldwide."
