"STEALTH" Linux & Apache and Opensource R&D is what may be accounting for a substantial portion of the BIG IRON and BIG COPPER lost visibility of earnings, as companies use this recessionary bear market to wean themselves off of the expensive closed software and hardware computer and network systems providers. Why pay $30,000 to $300,000 for a system when you can have your own network staff configure FREE linux and apache and related software to run on the high performance desktops that exceed the performance of the best mainframes and other server software of the past 5 years? So the question is, if the money is not in MSFT or SUNW or the like, will it be in LNUX or RHAT or even CORL (which has or had prior to MSFT investments a java and also linux version of wordperfect office suites?).....or will it be in the things that opensource and freeware software can not provide, such as the actual wiring, the actual routers and lines (DSL, T1, T3, Optic fiber) or storage like my NTAP or some hardware devices....some form of cheaper desktops or handhelds....(like my PALM) [always have to point out my investment strategy and give it a plug---sorry].....the point is, the change, or revolution has to LAND somewhere, somewhere PROFITS will be EARNED and that means some "THING" has to be SOLD to some BUYER...but, after the "GOLD RUSH", which is now, and as we go back towards market recovery and then economic recovery the question still is: where is it going to go? And does this in part explain the drastic drop in purchasing and thus loss earnings and visibility of companies like CSCO and even MSFT?.....maybe. I am, Truly your$, -Crystal Ball Subject 51122 |
