progress is garbage If it succeeds in reinventing itself as a internet tools vendor - as opposed to a dbms vendor - who cares.

Informix is a niche product - look at the help wanted ads in your local paper - how many companies are looking for people with Informix experience? Companies are screaming for Oracle, SAP, and even Sybase (hey- its a legacy application) and DB2 - Universal Server is several years out and any short term lead Informix has in the area of oodbms will be erased by then. Also the NT threat will hit IFMX harder than oracle since oracle has significant corporate coverage and marketshare in NT already. It will be much harder for the second tier vendors SYbase and Informix to compete in this area.

Peoplesoft is a strong company with some new financial and manufacturing products coming out - but it will take more marketshare away from SAP. This market is growing so fast thought that Oracle and PSFT will continue to prosper.
