Time to look at Paul Allen's CHTR?
Charter Communications' shares (CHTR: news,
msgs) were boosted 2 3/8, or 9.5 percent, to 27 1/4 in Instinet trading,
after the company announced late Wednesday an agreement with AT&T
Broadband & Internet Services to trade certain cable systems to create
more efficient cable operations. Under the agreement, Charter will take
over the ownership of AT&T BIS, a unit of AT&T (T: news, msgs),
serving 704,000 customers and AT&T BIS will assume ownership of
select Charter cable systems serving 632,000 customers for an
undisclosed amount of cash. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen is the
Chairman of Charter, which began public trading on Nov. 9.
