To the Editor:

I find the latest Abelson column to be a blatant attempt to discredit a company and a stock to the benefit of short sellers. I believe it contains many incorrect and slanted statements. Abelson is obviously "in-bed" with Sturza, but Sturza must not have told him he has been recommending shorting NVX (North American Vaccine) since the stock was at 8 and is the largest loser by a big margin on Sturza's list of recommendations. I consider Abelson's failure to so mention that Sturza has recommended shorting since it was at 8 to be a major non-disclosure on the part of your columnist.

As far as the facts go - Did Abelson or one of his associates consult with the FDA or anyone else in attendance at the meeting to determine what happened?? I know it was confusing, but I know of no one but Sturza coming to his conclusions that Abelson published. Did Sturza attend? Or was it one of his so-called Dr. advisors (cronies)? Sturza was said to be under investigation by authorities in recent years (see NY Times) and I can see why now. Is Abelson going to get tangled up in that same web?

Why is that your Bill Alpert on page MW 8 tells a totally different story on NVX? I believe his remarks regarding NVX are THE FACTS.

One final item - Was there a leak from Sturza concerning the Abelson column that was to appear the next day? I suspect that resulted in the negative stock activity on Friday since the stock had days before reacted to the FDA Panel meeting. I don't think Barron's would leak it, but STurza would.

Hopefully, the damage to NVX in the market will be limited. I am a small holder so it will not hurt me, but I lose respect for Barron's when they publish such mistatements and associate with questionable characters. It is one thing to publish a negative story that is true and facts correct. It is another to publish one that contains blatant lies.
