DD, Indeed there has been an increase in Russian nationalism. But once the bombing in Serbia ends, people there will go back to trying to muddle through their economic woes. Please note how Chernomyrdin has come to the forefront of Russian politics and replacing Primakov (the former KGB director). Chernomyrdin is a westernized Russian. He has little desire to see Russian fall back into its previous history. People don't blame the Americans... Hell, the Republicans and most Americans are just as against this boondoggle that Clinton has stumbled into as the Russians are. We recognize it was a blunder. But we also understand that Milosevic did everything in his power to bring this issue to the brink. He originally came to power based upon a platform of increased Serbian nationalism in Kosovo and asserting Serbian control over other Yugoslavian provinces. It was this rhetoric and pursuit of a "greater Serbia" that compelled the Slovenes, Croats, Macedonians, and Bosnians to seek their independence or autonomy. As for DPU (depleted uranium) ammunition, which is more desirable, slow death from its still uncertain side effects, or quick death from "lead poisoning"?? Or would you prefer a toxic TNT cocktail?? Funny how no one has performed long-term studies on the long-term health side effects of detonating Tri-Nitro-Tuolene or RDX. Especially since far more of that has been expended than DPU ammunition which is for use against armored vehicles. I suggest you read Strarfor's analysis on Serbia.
