Your math seems about right. Again I emphasize that I am not an epidemiologist or public health expert, and so take what I say with that in mind. R is dynamic, as the immune fraction goes up or as behavior changes R will change. The whole game to me is to minimize the deaths till vaccination ends the pandemic.CDC now reports over a million people have been vaccinated.
The other way to drive down R is to identify and isolate infected people. South Korea did this extremely effectively last spring. This would involve industrial scale testing, but we have the largest biomedical industrial apparatus in the world. One of the great woulda coulda shoulda of this whole thing.
