IMHO its far more difficult to escape VAT tax then income tax. As an example look at all the money made illegally and never reported thus never taxed. The VAT is collected at the source with each stage of manufacturing or service adding its share and remitting to the govt, of course it adds to the price of goods and services BUT we could easily exempt things like Food and Drugs (much as we do now on most sales taxes)which would alleviate the pain on low income peoples as they spend most of the $$ on the basics. I would like a VAT tax ESPECIALLY if we eliminated the INCOME TAX altogether. Or at least ONLY apply it on large incomes and with reduced rates. jdn
