Powell, Schwartzkopf, McCain, and Cheney all endorse Bush, and all four are campaigning for him.

As to their leaving Saddam in power, the mission was defined and it was successfully carried out as defined. There was no mandate either from Congress or the coalition to do so. If we had gone beyond the mandate, there have been a lack of support from our friends, an international outcry, and destablization of the region resulting from it. Also, it would have required a door-to-door ground war in Baghdad with massive casualties, including civilians. Saddam loves to use civilians as human shields. Remember? In fact, the smart bomb that hit a hardened bunker full of high-ranking Iraqi officials' families caused a major stir. Remember?
