I'd very much like to believe that Warren Buffett is the exception which proves the rule - as I also believe that out of favor and non-glamorous investments are the key to superior investment results.

But I would take caution from the close friendship of Gates and Buffett (birds of a feather?) although Buffett seems to have produced a civilizing effect on Gates.

But there's additional caution in another Balzac quotation,

and also,
