I don't why shareholders would be satisfied just being offered AV shares for purchase. The Shareholders already OWN Alta Vista for crying outloud. At the very least, shareholders should get spun off shares plus options to buy a certain additional amount of shares at the spin off price up to a certain amount. I own ATT, I got Lucent. I didn't have to buy Lucent. I was spun off Air Touch as well. I've had numerous other stocks spun off. Raytheon, Quest, Covance on and on.. Never have I had to go to the open market and by spun off shares that I already rightly owned.
