Seth: Once I was involved with the ponies, but not any more. My sister still has a jumper and many of her friends are in the business, Darell Vienna, a good trainer at Santa Anita, for one. My sister's horse was started by Monty Roberts, the guy that talks to horses. He has a farm outside of Solvang, CA. His technique of starting (breaking is a bad term) horses works, and is incredible to watch.

Anyway, as far as investing in thoroughbreds is concerned, you will have to buck the odds before you find a good one. And if you do find a good one, you will have to worry about keeping him from injury, on and off the track. I would recommend 'going easy' on that. My advice is to just buy a $2.00 ticket on the one you fancy and let it go at that.

Take care,
Lee
