Benecol Products Launched in UK

Raisio Group plc STOCK EXCHANGE BULLETIN
March 29, 1999, at 13.00 Finnish time

BENECOL PRODUCTS LAUNCHED IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

Raisio Group's partner McNeil Consumer Nutritionals Limited,
a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, has begun deliveries and
marketing of the Benecol range in the UK.

The launch includes two Benecol spreads (normal and low fat)
and Benecol cream cheese style products in two flavours.
They have been developed in cooperation by Raisio and McNeil
and are manufactured by Raisio Group's Margarine Division in
Raisio.

The major UK food chains are participating in Benecol's
marketing and the products are carried by leading
supermarkets across the country. They will be displayed as
foodstuffs with margarines and cheeses. The recommended
price is œ2.49 (VAT not included) for both the 250g pack of
spread and the 200g pack of cream cheese. Benecol's
cholesterol-lowering effect is stated clearly on the packs:
"Helps actually lower cholesterol as part of a healthy
diet".

Some 70 per cent of UK adults have cholesterol-levels that
exceed recommendations. This amounts to over 40 million
people who should pay attention to cholesterol management in
their diets.

Raisio Staest US Inc.'s stanol ester plant in Charleston,
South Carolina, in the United States has completed
production-scale test runs and is standing by to begin
deliveries of stanol ester for the Benecol products market
launch in the US.

The stanol ester for the Benecol products sold in Europe is
manufactured by Raisio Staest Oy in Raisio. Both Raisio
Staest Oy and Raisio Staest US Inc. are fully-owned
subsidiaries of Raisio Group plc.
