Sam:

Fidelity's annuities comparatively don't impose high fees and penalties IMO.

There are certain rules one has to live with, but if you go in with a good chunk of already tax paid money and are able to avoid any withdrawals for 5 years, it can be a good option for investors of certain persuasions, For instance, you can, if young, look forward to many years of never having to declare your gains or losses. Mandatory withdrawals are way into old age.

Fidelity provides a long list of good funds, some outside the family, to choose from besides their own usual known funds. These can be exchanged on the internet easily but within certain time parameters on sector funds like energy. Exchanges are free of commissions or fees. Check it out before investing and exchanging.

The Fed does have a rule of last in first out when one withdraws money so that means until one gets into his original investment base or voluntary contributions of already taxed $, he will be paying regular income taxes on withdrawn gain increases. You can build an income stream from annuities lastly with the help of Fido's experts when ready to take withdrawals looking forward to monthly income - subject to moderate tax.

Annuities are another item for some in their tool box of investing. I am just reporting this from my personal experience the way I've found it. Top Annuity has given you the best answers, and there is plenty of printed info available from Fidelity's reps.
