I read your post of Haim Harari's talk.

I agree with many of his points --- including his major point, that Israel/Palestine is not the 'main problem in the region'.

That is undoubtedly true.

Never-the-less, the Israel/Palestine conflict frequently serves as diversion/cover story/excuse for many of the endemic social and economic problems that plague the area... aside, of course, from whatever legitimacy the unresolved political dispute has on it's own merits.

This 'scapegoating' and 'inflating of the importance' of the conflict to serve as whitewash for other issues, does not mean that the political conflict isn't important in and of itself.

IMO (totally unrequested, I know), it is past time for the nation of Israel to offer a last and final settlement proposal to it's opponents... backed by the decision to pursue formal annexation of conquered territories if the choice is not made for peaceful co-existence with a nationstate of Palestine.

One cannot sit on the fence forever... and 'backdoor' de facto annexation is only going to prolong the instability and bloodshed into the indefinite future.
